  there's plenty of evidence that tobacco has cancer causing agents and can thus be deemed a defilement of the flesh.. .

  therefore, since we have these promises, beloved ones, let us cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in gods fear.

  Do a search on "Cannabis in the Bible" . . . you may be shocked (or not) by what evidence there is that cannabis was a major ingedient in annointing oils, incense etc . .

  Alot of those guys in the Bible were high . .

  Clear distinction of people on JWN

  this has been an interesting science project to say the least.

  here is what i have learned:.

  you have about 6 types of people posting on jwn, they all fit into a profile.. #1 you have people like me that ran the race, exemplified conduct while in the jw cult and learned through observation that there was a severe disconnect between truth, and the jw cult's statements.

  Guess I would have to be a modified #6 like mr flipper

  . . born in, left . . not thrown out, knew it was bullshit from a young age . . like 12, just from observing my father's over the top self righteousness.

  Left twice actually before I really woke up . . got my Engineering Degree and a life. Moved on . . but still have some baggage . .

  the little girl was speaking slowly to the psychologist (who was taking notes rapidly) and choosing her words haltingly.. it was obvious to the policemen nearby that she was upset, shaken and trying to cope with her distress.. "my uncle took me to live with him when my parents died in the plane crash.

  he bought my clothes, cooked my meals and made sure i had games to play, tv to watch and any dolls or toys i asked for.".

  she stopped momentarily...as if to sift her thoughts around.

  That short story captures the essence of what I went through getting out of the Borg. And it inspired me to post for the first time in years!!

  What DO I think about Glenn Beck?

  i think of myself as 'moderate libertarian' if i must attach a lapel card.

  and i'm not sure that is entirely the correct one.. i endorse fiscal conservative thinking, believe in limited government, and a strong domestic defense policy.

  in these areas, i could find myself in agreement with the talk show host.

  I listen too him almost everyday on the radio, along with Hannity. The direction he has taken in the last few months makes me uncomfortable. Perhaps it it too much like the "Sky is Falling" bullshit I listened to in the Witch Tower Kult for 30+ years.

  The man is brilliant, of that I have no doubt. Is he a charlatan? I don't know, charlatans do not have the conviction he has. Charlatans usually KNOW that they are charlatans.

  The ex kultmember in me wants to classify him as just another, but very interesting. end timer. The other, geopolitically aware, side of me knows that he just-might-be-right.

  A very beautiful young aux pioneer sister who was also a stripper and escort. NTTAWWT. She was a beautiful and loving soul as well. Me and Mrs L-o-B were very good friends with her, before and after she left the kult. She moved away, went to college, and became a doctor.

  I burned my Kult library; that took all of a beautiful summer Sunday morning. Very therapeutic. Then I went to college and got an Engineering Degree, at 49.

  Worlds Apart

  so i just watched the danish film "worlds apart" thanks to a reference from this forum.

  i really enjoyed it.

  it was almost boring because the depiction of jw life was so good i felt like i was watching a film of my life.

  Haven't seen the movie, maybe someday.

  I was 9. I remember a life insurance Salesman came to our farm in NH in 1962. My dad told him he didn,t need life insurance. When the the salesman asked him why he thought he didn't need life insurance. My dad's reply was "Because I'm never going to get old and die".

  The salesman actually took a step backwards, stunned, then looked at my father like he was a lunatic, then looked at me with a look of dismay, and pity. He left without saying a word.

  That was the instant when I knew it was all bullshit. But I still spent the next 30 years living the lie, and the next 18 trying to live MY life. I still have some baggage but have fared better than most in the same boat. Some I knew committed suicide, consumed by the monster called "Cognitive Disonance". I came very, very close myself.

  I also remember walking down the street and seeing ~normal~ people, happy people, and feeling the same things she does . . many times.

  I don't belong here anymore

  these are some things i have been thinking about .

  .. when i first found this site i registered immediately ... never was a "lurker" ... and i've been here about six months.. everyone was very warm welcoming and i felt at home very quickly ... very pleasant at the time, but as time has progressed i look back and feel a bit "love-bombed" ... much like a religion i used to belong to.. i have found that this site is a bit "cliquey" ... groups of posters frequent at similar times and enjoy their familiarity with each other and that's great ... but they also sometimes exhibit a coolness toward those outside their clique ... almost as if your 'post count' is the first thing by which you are "judged" ... much like a religion i used to belong to.

  some posters develop a personal dislike for others and not only jump on their threads but even deliver the odd "slap" on unrelated threads to increase the discomfort for the object of their dislike ... not unlike a religion i once belonged to.. some posters even follow others around the board looking to counter or use snide or clever put downs at every opportunity ... a kind of intellectual "rivalry" that was common to those in that religion i used to belong to.. many posters like to use 'in-house' jargon and labels eg; "newbies" for those recently joined.

  Why do you think there is a vast army of folks like me who post very rarely here . . . we just lurk to keep our finger on the pulse of the last days of the fucking Borg . . .

  sorry if I sound harsh . . but this is no place for the naive. The empathetic are outnumbered by the sophomoric philistines . .
